Here at last, is the video that I did of my painting of Van Gogh's Starry Night

Finally Beginning the Van Gogh!

I have worked on the Van Gogh painting all day today and I am happy with how it looks.
I have been making a time-lapse video of it and will post that video, once I get it digitized and edited. I have researched Van Gogh's pallet and technique and so the process was very fun to do.

VanGogh's Starry Night

I still have not had the time to start this painting yet, but I will get to it soon. Van Gogh was in an asylum when he painted this painting. Clearly, he was have a having difficulty perceiving reality
during this time of his life. I wonder how he would have reacted, if he had known that some of his paintings would eventually sell for as much as $71 million, or that Starry Night would become so famous and well loved, that the image would appear on t-shirts, coffee mugs, mouse pads, even skate boards--not to mention 100's of thousands of posters, world wide.

Masterpieces

I have decided to begin a series of paintings that will be copies of masterpieces by artists like Monet, VanGogh, Beirstadt and Moran. I am going to embark on this project as a way to learn from these masters, but mostly because I love their work and I want to know what it feels like to paint like them. There is a long established tradition of doing this as a method of training painters, although it takes place more in Europe than it does here.
